Hello!
It’s been a long time.
In that time life has been interesting, challenging, rewarding, exciting, and busy. In February, my relationship ended, but without drama or misery. There is a beautiful picture to be painted detailing the unusual and unexpected outcome of the breakup, but it will require much more time to get the colours right.
In March, I began the Masters of Social Work full-time. To say it was well-timed and revolutionary would understate the importance it has had on my life this year. I threw myself into it — which is the main reason the newsletter ceased production — and I have been rewarded with high praise and results for assignments. I don’t believe marks reflect a student’s full capabilities; however, because I’m a mature-age student with a decade of teaching academic writing skills under my belt, there was a precedent I had set for myself. It is absolutely fabulous being an adult student. You know how to organise your time and know how to ask for help.
For the second semester we have work placement. I am one of few students who requested indirect social work doing research and policy work. I have been placed in one of Australia’s leading LGBTIQ+ health organisations working on sexual assault and domestic violence research. It will be a confronting but, hopefully, insightful experience. I’m very excited to start.
In other news, I’m about to move house. I found an apartment a 3 minute walk away from where I am now. It has a big enough kitchen and lots of storage — the two most important things I looked for in a studio. I look forward to setting it up and making a new nest for Hugo (the cat) and I.
So, a lot has happened. In the next few weeks before I start placement I hope to put out a couple more newsletters with interviews and a piece I wrote a while ago. Stay tuned!
Some YouTube of interest:
My friend Lana got me onto Tasting History. Fantastic history lessons through food. Here’s the most recent one, but the whole channel is amazing:
Another fantastic channel dedicated to looking at how fashion is used in pop culture:
A new channel by a creator I have shared here before, which looks at far-flung places around the world. The latest one on Kerguelen is super interesting:
Yeah, so while I have been busy with uni, my love for YouTube never faltered.
Til next time!
Your next semester sounds like a lot of fun, good luck! That video on the Kerguelen islands is so good.. thank you for the reminder about them haha.. I was fascinated by the islands when I was in school; when google earth was invented I would always pour over them :)
